Time Alone
You got, one face cloth
Kind of a rag but it’s perfect to use
You leave it hung over a wire and sticks
You rigged up above by the fire
You got, a little vehicle
It’s pretty good
You put the seats down in the back,
And got a piece of foam to put on top of it
Just in case it rains, and floods the tent
You sleep in the car one night
But realize you prefer the feeling of the ground
It rains.
You wake up and smell petrichor,
A term for the the earthy scent produced when rain falls on dry soil
The word is constructed from Greek petra (πέτρα), meaning “rock” or “stone”, and īchōr (ἰχώρ), the fluid that flows in the veins of the gods in Greek mythology.
You feel the softness of rain,
The shy, muted air
It’s cleansing you
It stops.
The sun actually comes out, sprinkling through the trees
You get ready for your day inside the tent
You don’t mind the wetness of the ground,
The scent is so beautiful, and the birds are out — singing again
Breakfast is boiled water for tea and oatmeal with berries you picked nearby
You meditate by the river near your camp alone
You feel inner peace.
You spend the day in nature, collecting found materials for art
You enjoy the sounds of the forest, healing and therapeutic to the soul
It gets warmer, you find a large stone that appears comfortable
This is where you nestle in to write
You look around and notice the pure silence, totally interrupted by Nature.
It’s very busy here… You notice your environment
You are safe here. You have everything you need.
There are no bears in these parts, only rabbits and fish
The sun begins to settle
You stoke a fire for the night and turn on the radio
An old tune plays through the old speaker
It’s a song that reminds you of the feeling of “home”
The kind of home feeling you always want and cherish
Reminds you of a place,
a place you love inside yourself
A feeling of belonging and contentment
The radio is turned off and you return to the silence of nature
The fire cracks, you stare into the flame
You reflect upon your life and where you feel your path is headed
You feel secure and confident knowing you have chosen to stay true to your self above all else — You realize you have been able to re-discover your self worth by facing the things you tried to escape before.
You feel proud of yourself. You love yourself,
and you express that in your mind.
You are grateful for life, including all of its challenges.
You look up at the moon and see stars peppered all around it…
You thank the moon and take it’s presence as a blessing.
You feel good.
You go to sleep in your tent, zipping and snuggling in
You brought blankets to go with your sleeping bag,
You get very cozy
You close your eyes and smile
All is well in your world.
